better serve today’s home buyers by breaking down the barriers that complicate

CHESAPEAKE, VA (April
16, 2021) Tidewater Home Funding, LLC. and its affiliates announced today a
partnership with the National Association of Minority Mortgage Bankers of
America (NAMMBA) to affect positive change with the housing needs of our
underserved communities across Virginia and North Carolina.
This partnership
enables Tidewater Home Funding, LLC. and its affiliates to actively collaborate
with NAMMBA furthering diversity and inclusion efforts in its market service
areas and in the mortgage industry. Team members have access to annual NAMMBA
memberships, focused trainings, new hire programs, and leadership opportunities
positioning Tidewater Home Funding, LLC. and its affiliates to further support
the communities in which it conducts business, creating economic opportunity
that focuses on business development for minority mortgage professionals while
meeting the housing needs of underserved areas.
“NAMMBA’s mission and vision aligns with ours,” states Kim Curtis, President and CEO of Tidewater Home Funding, LLC. “We are excited to partner and collaborate with a progressive organization like NAMMBA that seeks to increase diversity within our industry employment base while advocating for sustainable homeownership in the diverse communities we serve.” Curtis says, “meaningful education is a critical component for successful homeownership at all levels and within all the markets we serve, especially within multicultural and diverse ethnic communities. We look forward to serving alongside NAMMBA to deliver meaningful and positive change supporting inclusiveness at all mortgage lending and homeownership levels.”
“Tidewater’s family of lenders unifies with NAMMBA’s commitment to diversity and inclusion while funding dreams in disadvantaged and under resourced communities. We look forward to an exciting year ahead to make an impact together," said NAMMBA Founder/CEO Tony Thompson, CMB.
Collaboration
efforts between Tidewater Home Funding, LLC., its affiliates, and NAMMBA will
create positive change in our underserved community housing markets. According
to NAMMBA, over the next five years, 75 percent of all first-time home buyers
will be women, millennials or people of color. Although there is concern across
the industry about a stagnant or shrinking housing market, purchase mortgage opportunity
is not only growing, it’s changing. According to NAMMBA’s most recent mortgage
market forecast, the three largest diverse borrower groups (Asians,
African-Americans, and Hispanics) generated more than $292 billion of purchase
opportunity in 2020, which amounts to 24.2 percent of all purchase dollar
opportunities.
